What file types are used for vector files/what do vector files end in?

A vector file is a file that ends in .ai,.eps, or .svg. So, no, a .png is not a vector file, and a .pdf will not work for our purposes.

What exactly is a vector file? What is it used for?

Instead of using pixels like many images, a vector file is a series of points plotted out on a grid using mathematical formulas. Because of this, the image quality is much better and, most importantly, the item can be resized as needed. This is important for Corium because this allows us to create a custom stamp for your leather items. Vector files are often used in logo design for exactly this reason–logos need to be attached to a lot of different things, and therefore need to be resized.

How do I save or create a vector file in Illustrator/Photoshop?

To save a vector file in Illustrator, just go to file, then export. Name the new file as normal, then navigate to the Save as Type or Save as Format dropdown menu and choose one of the vector file options.

In Photoshop, your image should have several different layers. Right click the layer you want to save as a vector file, then click “export as” and choose the vector file option.

Can I create a vector file in Canva?

Unfortunately not, Canva does not provide this service.

So there are three vector file formats. What does each format do? Which is the best format?

Here’s a quick summary of what each format does.

.ai–this stands for Adobe Illustrator. This type of file is often used for print media and logo design related to print media. It’s very well-suited for creating logos. Remember, though, it can only be edited in Adobe Illustrator.

.eps–this stands for Encapsulated PostScript. This is a good file for high-resolution printing. However, it is an older file and doesn’t support transparency as well as a .ai or .svg.

.svg–this stands for Scalable Vector Graphics. This is incredibly useful for web design because it can be indexed by search engines.

The best vector file type depends on what you want to do. Any of these will work well for your Corium order!

Now that you know all about vector files, you can proceed with your order! This information will allow us to stamp your logo on our beautiful desk pads, dopp kits, and other items.
